The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are set to officially open Grand Cayman’s newly expanded Owen Roberts International Airport later this month.
The royal couple will unveil the development as part of a visit to the Cayman Islands from March 27th-28th.
The expansion project has tripled the size of Grand Cayman’s airport facilities, allowing the island to accommodate close to 2.5 million passengers annually.
The airport will include an expanded departure hall, food court, VIP lounge, restaurant, additional restroom facilities, children’s play area, mother and baby room and a variety of concessions.
The CIAA owns and operates the Owen Roberts International Airport in Grand Cayman and the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport in Cayman Brac.
The official airport opening comes days before British Airways switches to its summer schedule on April 6th and operates a Saturday departure from London Heathrow to Grand Cayman replacing the Sunday service.
The Saturday departure day during the summer makes it easier for British visitors to take advantage of annual leave by travelling Saturday to Saturday to the Cayman Islands.
British Airways operates four direct flights a week from London Heathrow to Grand Cayman.
A British Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands are located in the western Caribbean Sea, south of Cuba and north west of Jamaica.
Comprising of three islands, all offer something different from the barefoot elegance of Grand Cayman, to the adventurous spirit of Cayman Brac and the tranquillity of Little Cayman.
