Pittsburgh International Airport has unveiled the concept design for a new $1.1 billion terminal that is scheduled for completion in 2023.
Among the features are a larger security checkpoint area, more space for concessions, outdoor green plazas and a ground transportation area.
Officials say the terminal will reduce the time it takes to get from curbside to within the secured portion of the airport by 50% and the time to it takes get from the international arrivals area to the airport exit by 67%.
The project also includes a tripling of the number of covered parking spots at the airport.
The terminal will be constructed between the existing concourses C and D.
The board of directors of the Allegheny Airport Authority approved the concept design on Wednesday.
