Virgin Voyages will sail several four- and five-day cruises when the Scarlet Lady launches from Miami next year. Previously, Virgin Voyages had talked about doing seven-day itineraries.
Havana, Costa Maya in Mexico and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic will each be the focus of a different itinerary from Miami.
Diana Block Garcia, vice president of itinerary and destination development for Virgin Voyages, said the routes were picked to provide “overnight destinations that have a combination of opportunities for high-energy exploration and places for relaxation.”
Guests will have an overnight or a late-night departure on all voyages.
Virgin also released details about its 1,330 non-suite accommodations. It said most will have a daybed engineered and handcrafted by Walter Knoll in Germany.
Called the Seabed, Virgin calls it “a completely new transformational bed that converts from full-sized bed to lounger.” It said the architecture of the rest of the room was designed around the bed concept.
“We didn’t want to create the same old box of a bedroom that our Sailors would only use to lay their head down at night. We wanted to reshape the entire cabin experience,” said Dee Cooper, senior vice president of design for Virgin Voyages. “Whether it’s sleeping, socializing or stargazing they desire, our cabins will transform to match our Sailors’ whims.
Virgin said mood lighting will automatically adjust based on where the ship is sailing and at what time of the day, “reflecting the blue seas and the gold to purple sunsets of the Caribbean waters.”
The cabins will feature passive infrared sensors that detect when someone has left the cabin and go into energy-saver mode, where blinds will close and air conditioning will adjust to an eco-saver temperature, Virgin said.
Other cabin features include a 43-inch flat-screen HDTV, mini-bar and rainfall shower head.
Virgin said a saddle leather chair, complete with refined stitch detail, is typical of the quality of material used in the designs.
It said 93% of cabins have an ocean view and 86% have a sea terrace (Virgin’s term for a balcony). All terraces aboard the Scarlet Lady will feature hammocks handwoven by artisans from Yellow Leaf in rural Thailand.
Cabin categories include XL Sea Terrace, Sea Terrace, Sea View, Insider, Social Insider cabins that sleep up to four in a chalet-style bunk and Solo Insider cabins designed and priced for the solo traveler.
The Scarlet Lady’s inaugural 2020 season will open for bookings on Feb. 14, when Virgin Voyages plans to reveal more details about the onboard experience and an additional destination to be featured on all cruises. Details about shore excursions will be released in late 2019.

I’m picturing the cabin stewards “transforming” these beds on our whims.
