Michael Njogu has been appointed Managing Director of Sense of Africa East Africa, as of September 1. Njogu replaces Martin Cook, who died earlier this year.
Njogu joined Sense of Africa in 2016 as Sales and Marketing Manager, and was promoted in 2017 to Deputy MD by Cook as a local understudy. He has been acting MD since April and has proved himself capable and competent to manage the operation. Sense of Africa believes in a policy of promoting from within when it has suitable people.
Njogu brings the same vision of exceeding customer expectations, and a similar culture to strive for market leadership through excellent service and product delivery.
He is a team player who adds value to the regional spread of Sense of Africa, bringing new energy and ideas.
In a statement, Sense of Africa said: “We are extremely pleased with this promotion and believe Sense of Africa will continue to flourish under his leadership.”
Air Seychelles has confirmed Remco Althuis as its permanent Chief Executive after eight months of serving as the carrier’s interim CEO.
The airline recently said board members of both Etihad Airways and government had approved the appointment of Althuis, who joined the national carrier in December.
Althuis, a citizen of the Netherlands, succeeds Irishman Roy Kinnear, who left Air Seychelles on December 31.
Jean Weeling, Chairman of Air Seychelles board said: “We have been working with Althuis for over eight months now and with his wealth of experience in the aviation industry I am confident that together with the Air Seychelles team he will continue to drive the airline’s transformation plan forward,” reports Seychelles News Agency.
British Airways has appointed Sue Petrie and Cristina Graham to head its commercial division in Kenya and the larger East African region.
The duo will take over from Kevin Leung, who has been the airline’s Country Manager for Ghana and Kenya since 2015. Leung will take up another role at BA.
Graham said: “Kenya is the business hub of East Africa and having a dedicated commercial team will help to ensure that we’re better able to serve large corporates and the growing SME sector in the region,” reports Business Daily.
Petrie has been BA’s Commercial Manager in Southern Africa and has over 30 years’ experience with BA, leading trade sales teams in South Africa, Mauritius, Angola and the Seychelles. Graham has been Regional Commercial Manager Corporate for Southern and East Africa for BA.
Darryn Pypers has been appointed Guest Services Manager at The Table Bay in Cape Town.
Pypers studied at the International Hotel School in Cape Town before accepting his first job at Protea Hotel Durbanville. More recently, Pypers worked at Sun International’s SunLux hotels and The Palace at Sun City in South Africa’s North West province.
