Quebec City will build a second cruise terminal capable of handling ships carrying more than 4,000 passengers.
The terminal, expected to be ready by 2020, will cost $30 million. The Port of Quebec will invest $10 million, Quebec province $15 million and the city $5 million.
The project calls for a 100,000-square-foot cruise terminal, two gangways and enhancements to the berth to accommodate the new construction.
Quebec would be the only turnaround port along the St. Lawrence River that could accommodate ships of more than 4,000 passengers, said Quebec Port Authority CEO Mario Girard.
In 2018, eight ships are making inaugural calls to Quebec. Disney Cruise Line and Windstar Cruises are sailing to the city for the first time.
