Delta is now equipped to provide entry to each of its 50 U.S. Sky Clubs via a biometric fingerprint scan.
The offering is part of Delta’s partnership with Clear, the privately-run identity-authentication service that uses biometric technology to expedite passage through TSA security checkpoints at 24 U.S. airports.
Delta’s biometric lounge entry service is free to all Sky Club members who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. To use the service, however, fliers must already be Clear members, or they must enroll in the Delta Biometrics program at one of the Clear kiosks located at 14 Delta Sky Clubs across the U.S.
Those who obtain the free Delta Biometrics enrollment also get one month’s free membership to use Clear’s expedited security lanes at TSA checkpoints. However, they still must pay for longer-term Clear membership. The price for general SkyMiles members is $99 per year, while those with status on the airline get membership for $79. (Membership is free for Diamond Medallion members.) Clear’s standard enrollment rate is $179 per year.
Delta’s broad rollout of fingerprint-activated Sky Club entry follows trials at Washington Reagan and Atlanta airports. The service allows club-goers to forgo displaying a paper or mobile boarding pass, or Sky Club membership card.
