The state of Hawaii plans to replace the nearly 50-year-old Diamond Head Concourse at Honolulu’s Daniel Inouye Airport with a new $1.1 billion facility.
The 800,000-foot building will have 12 to 14 widebody gates, up from the six widebody gates that the concourse currently has. Diamond Head also has seven narrowbody gates.
Construction of the concourse is expected to begin five years from now, and completion of the project is expected in 2028.
The updated concourse will also have a new Customs and Border Protection facility capable of processing 4,000 arriving passengers per hour, improved security screening and a new parking area for airport employees.
“The new Diamond Head Concourse will help ease the current congestion during peak times and provide a much-needed increase in airport capacity that will be necessary over the next decade,” said Matt Shelby, co-chair of the Airlines Committee of Hawaii.
