Airports Company South Africa has released its Third Quarter Aviation Barometer, revealing that Durban and Cape Town airports have shown the biggest increase in passenger numbers.
Air passenger movement from July-September 2017, was compared with the same period in 2016.
Overall, South Africa’s nine airports handled 2,5 million more passengers over this period this year, a 5% increase over the same period in 2016. Cape Town International Airport saw an overall increase of 6,6% and King Shaka International Airport, 7,9%.
Cape Town is driving growth in international passengers, with a growth of 20,4% in international arrivals and 22,5% international departures. King Shaka International Airport has seen a 3% decrease in international passengers, but an increase in domestic arrivals of 8,7% and domestic departures of 8,3%.
George Airport has shown a strong growth in passengers of 8,5%.
OR Tambo International Airport saw passenger numbers rise by 2,9%, an increase of 154 445 passengers.
Domestic air travel at all Acsa airports has recovered from the decline in the second quarter, with arrivals up by 4,6% and departures by 4,9%.
