Denver International Airport has put forth a proposal to build 39 new gates by 2021.
The expansion would add to the 107 gates and 42 tarmac loading locations that the airport currently has. The project is estimated to cost $1.53 billion.
Denver’s airport served 58.3 million passengers in 2016, making it the sixth busiest in the U.S.
The proposed 39-gate expansion must still win the approval of the Denver City Council. The matter will go before the council’s committee that reviews airport issues on Nov. 8.
If the project is approved, construction could begin as soon as next year.
