The three largest cruise lines sailing from Florida canceled and altered upcoming cruise itineraries in response to Hurricane Irma’s effect on both Caribbean and Florida ports.
Norwegian Cruise Line canceled this week’s scheduled sailings aboard its two Miami-based ships, the Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Escape, and altered all of the Escape’s upcoming Eastern Caribbean sailings to the Western Caribbean itinerary until November.
Royal Caribbean International canceled the Empress of the Seas’ Sept. 13 Cuba cruise and the Majesty of the Seas’ Sept. 15 Bahamas cruise to use the ship for humanitarian purposes. Anyone booked on those cruises will be given a 100% refund in the original form of payment and a 25% future cruise credit if a new cruise is booked in the next 30 days.
Royal Caribbean also altered the following sailings, and said any passengers choosing not to sail will be given a 100% future cruise credit.
• Allure of the Seas’ Sept. 10 Western Caribbean cruise will depart Wednesday, Sept. 13, and sail a four-day itinerary with an overnight in Nassau, Bahamas, unless Nassau is not an option, in which case the line will go to its private island of Labadee, Haiti, which Royal said “has weathered the storm well.”
• Harmony of the Seas’ Sept. 9 Eastern Caribbean cruise will now depart Tuesday, Sept. 12 and sail a four-day itinerary to Cozumel, Mexico.
• Oasis of the Seas’ Sept. 10 Eastern Caribbean cruise will depart Wednesday, Sept. 13, and sail a four-day itinerary to Cozumel, Mexico.
Royal is offering guests on all of these sailings a 50% refund of their cruise fare in the form of a refundable onboard credit and an additional 50% future cruise credit.
• Enchantment of the Seas’ Sept. 11 Bahamas cruise will depart Tuesday, Sept. 12, on a three-day cruise to the Bahamas with one port call in Nassau.
Royal said that given the impact of Irma on Key West, the port will not be open to guests but the line will likely make a humanitarian stop there to assist residents there with essential supplies.
Guests on that cruise will be given a refund of 25% of their cruise fare in the form of a refundable onboard credit, as well as a 25% future cruise credit.
Carnival Cruise Line canceled the following cruises, and fully refunded all guests: Carnival Splendor, Sept. 9; Carnival Ecstasy, Sept. 9; Carnival Liberty, Sept. 10; and Carnival Paradise, Sept. 11.
The line said that the Carnival Paradise’s Sept. 7 sailing would overnight in Cozumel on Sunday and return to either Tampa or Port Canaveral, depending on the availability of the port in Tampa. If the ship is unable to debark in Tampa, it will proceed to Port Canaveral and dock on Wednesday. From there, passengers can elect to be transferred to Tampa or the Orlando airport via motorcoach or remain in the Port Canaveral area until the ship is repositioned to Tampa next Saturday.
Carnival altered the itineraries on the following cruises and is offering a future cruise credit in the amount paid for anyone who chooses to cancel. The line has asked passengers not to proceed to the pier without checking on the ship’s status on Carnival’s website.
• Carnival Conquest’s Sept. 9 departure from Port Everglades will now depart Sept. 12 on a four-day cruise to Cozumel.
• Carnival Glory’s Sept. 9 sailing will leave Miami on Sept. 12 on a four-day Cozumel cruise.
• Carnival Magic’s Sept. 9 cruise to Port Canaveral will depart Sept. 13 for a three-day cruise to Freeport and Nassau.
• Carnival Vista’s Sept. 9 sailing will depart Miami on Sept. 12 for a five-day Western Caribbean cruise to Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
