The Harare International Carnival in Zimbabwe is under way, with the World Tourism Expo due to commence on September 28.
Zimbabwean Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, W. Mzembi said: “As Government we are optimistic that it will yield a return on investment in the next five to ten years, hence the reason why the project has continued to receive major support from the Treasury.”
She said, apart from the funding from government for the carnival, the Big Time Strategic Group of South Africa was a major sponsor.
As September is tourism month, many activities are happening across the country.
The Minister said soon after the carnival, they would be commemorating World Tourism Day on September 27 in Bulawayo, with celebrations culminating in the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo from September 28 to October 1.
“All this is for the good of the destination, so we urge all the other sectors to work with us in our efforts to turn around the fortunes of the economy through tourism,” she said.
