Table Mountain Cableway will be closed from July 24 until August 6, for scheduled annual maintenance.
Apart from mechanical and component work, specific maintenance includes replacing the lifts at the lower station, which will cause delays, and exit platforms will be switched around to ensure a better flow of foot traffic. The top station pathways will be resurfaced and the seating area in the Table Mountain café will be reconfigured. The visitor centre will be revamped and the cable cars rebranded.
Between August 24 and October 23 only one lift would be operational at the lower station, which would result in delays, said Wahida Parker, Cableway’s Managing Director. Parker said the first lift upgrade would take place between July 24 and August 27 and the second between August 31 and October 22.
“We will also be carrying out our usual maintenance, such as cleaning of the ropes and slack rope tests, servicing of the main gearbox, generators and back-up generators, as well as general electronic component changes and control checks.”
