Royal Caribbean International has no plans to stop calling in Falmouth, Jamaica.
Reports in the Jamaican press have said Royal Caribbean is leaving or may leave the port, which it developed in 2011 as a port of call when Royal Caribbean began sailing its large Oasis-class ships.
“We are still committed to Falmouth and have a meaningful number of calls to Falmouth for the current 2017-18 season, which is consistent with last year,” Royal Caribbean spokesman Owen Torres said.
However, Torres added that calls have been reduced for the 2018-19 season, a plan that “was in place when we opened for sale earlier this year.” The move is being made to introduce a greater variety of itineraries in the Caribbean, he said.
The line’s next ship, the 5,535-passenger Symphony of the Seas, will not make Falmouth part of its western Caribbean circuit, calling instead in Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Nassau, Bahamas.
Falmouth is located on Jamaica’s northern coast, east of Montego Bay and west of Ocho Rios.
