The U.S. has lifted the ban on carry-on electronic devices for flights departing from Istanbul and Dubai, Emirates and Turkish Airlines said. The cessation is effective immediately.
“#WelcomeOnBoard to our U.S. bound flight,” Turkish Airlines announced in a tweet. “Please fasten your seatbelts and enjoy your own electronic devices.”
Emirates tweeted, “Effective immediately laptops and electronic devices can be taken onboard all Emirates flights from Dubai to the U.S.”
Istanbul and Dubai join Abu Dhabi, the hub of Etihad Airways, as airports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has removed from the laptop ban over the past few days.
Airports in Qatar, Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait remain subject to the carry-on ban, which the DHS implemented in March in an effort to thwart potential attempts by terrorist networks to plant bombs in electronic devices on aircraft.
The carry-on ban only applies to devices larger than a cell phone.
Last week, the DHS said that it would end the ban once airlines and their host airports comply with a series of enhanced security measures.
