Economic Counsellor of the Cuban Embassy, Dagmar Gonzalez recalled that the presence of Brazilian visitors in Cuba’s main tourist resorts was increasingly noted, rising from little more than 16,000 in 2012 to 22,862 in 2016, making Caribbean the third destination most demanded by Brazilian travellers.
The number of Brazilian visitors in January 2017 reached more than 4,300. This figure accounts for over double the ones who travelled in the same month in 2016, as stated by Gonzalez. The comparative increase registered in last February, as 3,319 tourists were recorded, was 52%, while in the first two weeks of March, 1,318 Brazilians had travelled to Cuba. It accounted for a 31% growth relating to the same period in 2016.
In her presentation, Gonzalez referred to the upcoming opening of the first five-star plus hotel in Havana, the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski, boasting 246 rooms and luxury suites, as well as the beginning of the US-Norwegian cruise company’s operations.
