The cruise of the Ports of Auckland have reported to have the busiest months after acclaiming the recognition of ‘Cruise Terminal Operator of the Year’ at the Global Post Forum Awards earlier in 2017.
The Ports of Auckland managed about 31 cruise ship visits for February 2017, welcoming 89,516 passengers and crew members to Auckland. The port also experienced a prolonged stay of several ships for 12 days. February had included a record week for Auckland since L’Austral, Norwegian Star, Seabourn Encore and The World had commenced its operations simultaneously. Three of these cruise ships had ushered in about 3,550 passengers to the city.
Tony Gibson, CEO, Ports of Auckland, said that their cruise team has done a fantastic job of ensuring that people visiting Auckland end up having a beautiful impression of the city.
“This actually implies more people in one month than in the entire season of the cruising industry 10 years ago. It certainly indicates the positive scenario of the growth of the cruise tourism sector,” added the CEO.
Experts estimate that this year’s record-breaking cruising season would be adding nearly $490 million to the economy of the New Zealand economy.
