As per official figures, in the first two months of 2017, Jordan witnessed a rise of 16.2% in tourism revenue, which is equivalent to $652 million. As per the data released by the Central Bank of Jordan, tourism revenue reached $284.3 million in February 2017 which is up by 21.8% when compared last year’s amount of $233.4 million.
In terms of individual overnight visitors, tourism revenues increased 17% in February 2017 to 262,500 tourists, compared to 224,400 tourists in February last year. In 2016 individual overnight visitors increased to 3.86 million which was a growth of 2.6% compared to 2015. However, group overnight visitors were around 314,000 which is a 20% increase, as per figures released by the Tourism Ministry.
Issa Gammoh, Tourism Ministry Secretary General said that the number of group visitors to the Kingdom in the first two months of 2017 increased by 84% in comparison to 2016.
Between January and February of this year, more than 48,724 group tourists visited Jordan, compared to 26,500 group tourists in 2016.
