Natural Selection will open Sable Alley in the Khwai Private Reserve, Botswana, in May.
Sable Alley is brand new; there was a camp on the site previously but Sable Alley is “from the ground up, a new build”, explains Natural Selection’s, Peter Allison.
The camp borders both the Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park in the north of the country.
Sable Alley comprises 12 tents, two of which are interconnected family tents. The 63sqm tents are raised on decks and have mesh windows. The bathrooms have flush toilets, double vanities and the choice of an indoor or outdoor shower.
The Khwai Private Reserve has diverse habitats, including riverine woodlands, floodplains, open savannah, mopane woodland, rivers and lagoons. This results in a range of wildlife, including elephant, lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah and the sable antelope. The camp also offers game drives, both during the day and at night, and mokoro safaris.
Sable Alley is entirely solar powered, grey water is treated above ground and all rubbish is separated, recycled and taken to treatment plants for processing and disposal.
It is a community-based joint venture partnership that adjoins the Okavango Delta eco-system. The majority of the staff at Sable Alley are from the local community.
Natural Selection is in partnership with people in the concession. “It’s extraordinary that we get such a huge concession from the Delta. There has not been a price like this in a private concession in over a decade,” said Allison.
