The Kruger National Park has begun the process of reviewing its Park Management Plan.
The review is a requirement of the National Environment Management: Protected Areas Act No 57 of 2003, which stipulates that all protected areas must have management plans and review them every 10 years.
Members of the public are invited to take part in or give input on the plan through the website. Various structured meetings have been arranged and will take place in areas near the park, starting from Makuya, Limpopo Province, on April 18 ending at Ka-Mhlushwa, Mpumalanga Province, on May 4.
“SANParks’ vision, which reads “a sustainable National Park system connecting society” is the cornerstone of the Park Management Plan and serves as a guideline for our engagements with stakeholders,” says William Mabasa. SANParks Acting Head of Communications.
Ten Stakeholder Engagement meetings for the three main regions found along the park, Vhembe, Mopani and Ehlanzeni District Municipalities, will take place at the following venues:
- Makuya Forum on Tuesday, April 18, from 09h30 at Tshilamba Community Hall.
- Makuleke Contractual Park on Wednesday, April 19, from 09h30 at Born Again Church Maphophe Village.
- Hlanganani Forum (Punda Maria stakeholders) on Thursday, April 20, from 09h30 at Worship Tabernacle Christian Church.
- Hlanganani Forum on Friday, April 21, from 09h30 at Giyani Old Parliament.
- Ba-Phalaborwa Forum on Monday, April 24, from 09h30 at Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Hall.
- Mahlambandlopfu Forum APNR on Tuesday, April 25, from 09h30 at Hoedspruit – Rhino Convention.
- Mahlambandlopfu Forum on Wednesday, April 26, from 09h30 at Arcornhoek Miriam Mokgakane Hall.
- Ntirisano/Lubambiswano Forums on Tuesday, May 2, from 09h30 at Hossana Church Hall Hazyview-Tshabalala.
- Lubambiswano Forum on Wednesday, May 3, from 09h30 at Nelspruit/Ka-Bokweni JV Mdluli Confrerence Centre.
- Nkomazi Forum on Thursday, May 4, from 09h30 at Zoe Faith Temples International.
To accommodate as many identified stakeholders as possible, there will also be interest group consultation meetings in other provinces such as Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal, which are scheduled to take place in May and June, the public will be informed of the details closer to the time.
