On the final night of my recent trip to Chihuahua (following a productive trip around the state and a busy Tianguis Turistico tourism conference in Acapulco), I was a guest at the Quality Inn Chihuahua San Francisco. THE AMBIANCE: Set in a large building in the heart of downtown Chihuahua, Mexico, the Quality Inn Chihuahua San Francisco is supposedly set in what was once the first movie theater to open in the city. Today, there’s no sign of the structure’s past role, but it’s hard to miss the yellow facade of this value-priced Chihuahua hotel, and hard to resist the budget-friendly room rates if you’re looking to stay downtown. Inside, the conservative lobby decor offers plenty of places to sit and relax.
MY ROOM: I stayed in room 329, which had two double beds and a rather close-up view of another part of the same building. The guest room at this Chihuahua hotel was actually more attractive than I expected, with pleasant-looking bedding and decent pillows. Among the well-placed faux-colonial furnishings were a work desk and an armoire with drawers and a flat-screen TV. The bathroom was well lit, with a separate sink area that included a coffee maker, hair dryer and an open closet.
HOTEL FEATURES: Room rates include free continental breakfast, as well as free Wifi and free parking. There is a small hotel bar and a larger, mid-priced hotel restaurant.
The biggest selling point for most travelers is likely the combination of price and location. Sitting just behind the Chihuahua cathedral, the Quality Inn is well located for vacationers looking to stroll around the main city square and visit tourist attractions downtown, as well as business travelers looking for proximity to downtown offices. It’s not the most stylish Chihuahua hotel, but it’s very reasonable room rates and strategic location make it a very good option.

BEST FOR: Budget-conscious business travelers looking to stay downtown, and budget-conscious vacationers looking for the predictability of Choice Hotels brands as well as attractive prices, close to Chihuahua’s downtown tourist attractions and historic sites. It’s certainly a convenient place to place yourself for a Chihuahua city tour!
