Travelodge has opened the first branded hotel in Peterhead, Scotland, the first of three hotel openings for the company in the destination this year.
The other two include a 74-room hotel in Stirling and a 54-room Travelodge in Inverness.
Both hotels are scheduled to open towards the end of 2017.
These properties represent an investment value of £14 million for third party investors and will create around 50 new jobs.
The new Inverness and Stirling Travelodge hotels will feature the next generation of the company’s ‘Travelodgical’ contemporary room design.
Together with the bespoke king size Travelodge Dreamer bed, this includes new bedside USB charging points, new softer LED ceiling lighting to give the room a warmer feel and a Samsung 32 inch digital television.
Peterhead Travelodge is the company’s 544th hotel.
The purpose built 63 room hotel, with on-site car-parking, is located in the heart of the town centre on Chapel Street.
At the opening of Peterhead Travelodge, the hotel chain also announced that Scotland remains a key growth area, fuelled by businesses looking to reduce travel costs and by the new generation of independent leisure travellers.
To support this growing demand, Travelodge is looking for 21 new sites across Scotland where it can potentially open a hotel.
This expansion would represent an investment value of £100 million for third party investors and could create around 400 new jobs.
Brian Wallace, Travelodge chairman, said: “The value hotel market continues to go from strength to strength in Scotland boosted by cost-conscious businesses looking to reduce travel costs and by the growth in independent leisure travel.
“To meet this growing demand in addition to opening in Peterhead today, Travelodge will be opening new hotels in Inverness and Stirling later this year.”
