This not-fo-profit gallery/community centre in Stockholm is amazing!. The Mindepartementet Art and Photography shop and café is not far from the Moderna Museet. Photo © Canadian and World Tourism/Cactus Rock New Media Ltd. |
If you follow my blog or have come across one of my posts about Stockholm you can probably surmise that I have a huge city crush on Stockholm. True. But even I wasn’t infatuated with that Scandinavian city, the objective experience and the evidence you can research on your own will show that Stockholm is a fantastic city to live in or to visit. One of the many reasons is the city’s love for art and photography. If you visit, you will probably hear about Fotografiska, the large photo museum in Stockholm. And by all means do go to Fotografiska if you have an opportunity.

But also, I would like to recommend a much smaller and not famous gallery: The Mindepartementet Art and Photography shop and café. I actually came across it by accident after my visit to the Moderna Museet Museum. I was looking for a place to grab a coffee and I found Mindepartementet. I first thought it was a café, but after I walked in I realized it is a full photography and art gallery, albeit small. But that’s its charm. It also distinguishes itself as being more of a community centre that displays great photography by not so famous photographers. Check it out when you visit Stockholm after you go to the Moderna Museet.

4 hotels I suggest for your stay in Stockholm:
The Radisson Blu Waterfront right next to the impressive Convention Centre. Excellent location. The Scandic Continental. Centrally located very close to public transportation (which, by the way, is fantastic). I stayed at this hotel for a weeks in summer. Would definitely stay there again (though there are many cool hotels I’d like to try, including the 3 I suggest here besides the Continental).Hotel Rival. A very cool hotel (owned by ABBA’s Benny Andersson) in a cool neighbourhood.Haymarket by Scandic. Another cool hotel in a great location – the Hötorget (Haymarket) city square.
