Great Plains Conservation has taken over the lease of Sapi concession, a former hunting concession on the eastern boundary of Mana Pools.
The 118 000-hectare area will be put under conservation with a camp set up by the end of the year. By the time the camp opens, there should have been about two new cycles of wildlife births that won’t know the scourge of hunting, says Hilton Walker, Sales and Marketing Director at Great Plains Conservation. “We also have our eye on an existing property in Victoria Falls National Park.”
Walker added that, given Zimbabwe’s financial distress, it was critical for Great Plains and other companies to invest in the destination to ensure that money came in and employment and upliftment were created.
“We’re very excited to be in that neck of the woods and make a difference on the ground,” concluded Walker.
