Parvin Farshchi, who is the Deputy for Marine Environments, said that Iran is relying on its marine and coastal tourism potentials in order to achieve its 2025 target of drawing about 20 million tourists annually. She added that they would be capable of achieving this goal only of the marine tourism plans is implemented appropriately and also in a timely manner.
Over 70% of tourism development in the sixth five-year development plan are associated with marine tourism.
Farshchi stated that developing tourism is quite considerable to enable this region to attain its tourism goals, adding that the Mazandaran Province that is located in northern Iran lies along the borders of the Caspian Sea is among the key areas of tourism development. She also said that recently, the government has allotted a generous budget to develop the marine tourism sector.
According to statistics published by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the number of marine tourists arriving in this area has been increasing over the last few years. More than 7.2 million sea travellers utilised the ports of the country in the initial four months of the current Iranian year which began on March 20, 2016. The figures represent a 1.6% increase as compared to the same period the previous Iranian year.
