Overseas arrivals to South Africa are up 19% and total arrivals are up 13% year-to-date compared with the same period in 2015. However, both China and India have experienced declines in arrivals for November. This is according to the November 2016 stats released by Statistics SA on Monday.
Arrivals from China are down 13% for November 2016, compared with the same month in 2015. Arrivals from India were also down 5% for November. Total arrivals from China year-to-date were 109 521, and 88 796 arrivals from India.
However, South Africa’s remaining emerging market, Brazil, experienced significant growth in November, up 105%. Total arrivals year-to-date from Brazil were 32 341.
South Africa’s key source markets, all experienced growth. In November arrivals from Germany were up 20%, from the UK were up 12%, and from the US were up 10%. Total arrivals year-to-date were 280 229 from Germany, 394 378 from the UK and 313 704 from the US.
Other markets also experienced growth in November. Arrivals from France were up 29% with a total of 19 531, Spain was up 16% with 3 316 arrivals, Sweden was up 27% with 6 089 arrivals, and The Netherlands showed an increase of 18% with 15 726 arrivals. Arrivals from Israel was up 30% with 2 093 arrivals.
