Mellow, artsy Provincetown is filled with historic buildings and landmarks, tranquil harbors, and old-timey shops and restaurants that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Book a quaint B&B for the weekend and snuggle up after a day spent on the beach (or shopping or browsing art galleries.)
Palm Springs, California

If you needed further incentive to make the 2-hour drive from LA (besides the great weather, stunning mountains, and cozy downtown village), Palm Springs is a gay-friendly oasis in every sense of the word. Spend the weekend browsing world-class art museums, catch a live theater performance at night, or party the night away in a pulsing nightclub before retreating to your luxury resort.
Long Beach, California

On the southeast fringe of LA, Long Beach is not particularly known as a tourist destination (instead, it’s frequented by cruise ship passengers boarding and unboarding.) But, a weekend here has its draws: step back in time on the Queen Mary passenger ship, or wander through the Belmont Shore neighborhood and its bars, shops, and nightlife around Second Street. Enjoy an outing at the Aquarium of the Pacific. And enjoy a romantic dinner at one of the multi-ethnic restaurants, offering everything from American to Vietnamese to Mexican.
Savannah, Georgia

19th-century architecture, cobblestoned streets, and plenty of hanging Spanish moss make Savannah a true Southern belle. While “gay-friendly” is not as common a term in the south, Savannah’s forward-thinking society and progressive culture are an exception. Walk along the river on River Street for boutique shops, or head out to the art galleries on Broughton Street before cozying up to a Valentine’s Day picnic lunch in Forsyth Park.
Destin, Florida

Beach, beach, and more beach: this Emerald Coast outpost has something for everyone. Aside from the 26 miles of coastline certified as the “Blue Wave,” there are over 200 miles of trails through state forests and wild nature, making it the perfect outdoorsy destination for you and your lover. Of course, there are also the shops and restaurants in popular Destin Commons, and window-shopping is delightful in the Village Wharf.
Asbury Park, New Jersey
by: akfoto flickr – Courtesy: Trip.com
Okay, maybe you’re not surprised by this one, given the town’s resurgence as a thriving gay community in the past several years, but Asbury Park shouldn’t be overlooked. Known mostly for its music venues (and its role in launching big names like Springsteen and Bon Jovi), you can check out the important spots like the Stone Pony and The Saint. Dine on everything from fancy pizzas to oysters and champagne, and walk along the Boardwalk for a taste of the salty Joisey air.
