I’ve been skiing in Courchevel since I was a kid. Every winter, my family and I spent one week in this small French resort, hitting the slopes during the day and enjoying fun family activities in the afternoon. I kept the tradition and no year passes without at least one weekend in one of the most exclusive and best-known ski resorts in the world.
With such a selected “clientele,” it’s easy to see why Courchevel is regarded by many as the skiing fashion capital of the world. In fact, one of my favorite things to do here is to look at what gear people wear on the slopes and how they dress for apres-ski activities. Every year I ask myself, what will stand out on the fashionable pistes of Courchevel this time? And, most importantly, what should I wear so that I don’t get stopped by the ski Fashion Police?
We’ve already talked about the importance of buying your own ski equipment. This time, I want to tackle another important issue when it comes to ski fashion: what to wear to look good on the slopes of Courchevel and feel good as well.
With that in mind, I’ve put together this brief guide to help you find the most stylish and practical ski gear.

Stylish or Practical? Why Not Both?
There was a time when “style” and “functionality” were two distinct entities that couldn’t coexist. You could either choose one or the other: you could either look stylish and cool at the risk of hypothermia or opt for technical equipment that looks bad protected you from the elements.
Fortunately, things have changed, and the two aren’t mutually exclusive anymore. Ski equipment is constantly improved to please both fashionable skiers and those who want more functionality from their gear. Moreover, you have now more choices than ever, which can turn into a double-edged sword. One the one hand, there’s always good to have plenty of styles for every need and preference; one the other hand, too many choices could lead to exhaustion, stress, anxiety, and dissatisfaction (something that psychologist call “choice overload.”)
But, you mustn’t worry about that because the purpose of this article is to help you find the best ski gear and most stylish apres-ski clothes so that you can feel both stylish and comfortable during your ski holiday in Courchevel.
Look for Chic Ski Jacket
The jacket is the centerpiece of your ski equipment, so you want it to look good and provide you with enough protection from the elements. You need a jacket that is warm and windproof. If you fall, you need to be waterproof, and the material should be light and breathable because you will sweat a lot on the slopes during your short ski breaks in Courchevel.
Pay close attention to the details. Make sure that your jacket has waterproof fabric that wraps around the waist. That way, your jacket will stay secure on your back and will not go up if you fall.

I’ve heard so many stories of trousers tearing because they were too tight or the material was of low quality, so make sure to look for pants that feel comfortable and or of good quality.
You might think that tucking your trousers into the ski boots looks stylish, but it’s actually a big faux pas when it comes to ski fashion. Not only that it looks bad, but the material can rub against your skin, irritating it. And, one of the last things you want during your ski holiday in Courchevel is an annoying rash on your legs.
Trousers with a generous kick-flare are a popular option as they look quite stylish worn over the boot. Look for pants with zippers at the ankles to prevent snow from getting into your boots.
Add Warm and Style with Colorful Layers under Your Ski Gear
Think color and bold patterns: opt for base layers that are sure to turn heads on the slopes and that you’ll want to wear at the bar, as well. Try to stay away from clothes made from cotton as it isn’t a great insulator. Wool, on the other hand, will protect your clothes from getting wet if you fall.
Another thing you should keep in mind is to opt for thin thermal layers. I know what you might be thinking – it’s cold out there, so I need to warmest clothes to protect myself. That’s not necessarily true. Just think about how much you will sweat during an intense session on the some of the most popular slopes in Courchevel. Not to mention the fact that thin layers will allow you to move freely and show off your killer new moves.
Enhance Your Apres-Ski Look with a Pair of Stylish Boots
There are plenty of things to do in Courchevel besides skiing, so make sure to pack some clothes and accessories for your non-ski hours, too. My top tip for making a lasting impression at the local ski bar is to pack some stylish boots and wear them with one or two pairs of nice jeans or trousers.
Opt for a pair of chic tall flat boots to make your legs look longer and slimmer. Or, pair your apres-ski outfit with some warm, leather boots that will make your feet feel amazing after a hard day on the slopes. Heels are a major no-no on the fashionable streets of Courchevel.
The Right Accessories Can Make or Break Your Ski Outfit
If you prefer a more classic ski wear, then you’ll want to make sure your accessories are bold and unique. Opt for a pair of waterproof mittens in a bold color or pattern. Pair your trousers with some seventies-style knitted jumpers for a retro-inspired look. And, don’t forget to complete your outfit with a pair of chic sunglasses.
