As you might have got a sense of from reading my blog, I travel a lot and it can be very expensive!
Here are some of my favourites.
Tour guiding
If you’re travelling somewhere that you already know well, why not put some of that knowledge to good use by giving tourists insights into the area’s secrets, attractions and history?
Various agencies exist providing tour guide work for several weeks, although you could also get into this kind of work rather more informally, by gathering together a casual group of people and asking for donations from them after each tour.
The Institute of Tourist Guiding (yes, there is such an organisation) provides information on the qualifications that you can gain to become a tourist guide in the UK.
Street performing
If you’re a socially confident type who likes to ‘play to the crowd’, you can do that quite literally by becoming a street entertainer and inviting donations. Put your skills in dance, music or art to good use and enthral or captivate passers-by.
Just make sure you keep to the right side of the local law in terms of how you conduct yourself publicly, as well as that – of course – you are actually a good entertainer rather than an irritant to everyone.
Seasonal work
Like street entertaining, this is definitely one for those who don’t mind spending long periods indoors – I’m referring, of course, to the vegetable, fruit and flower picking that has long been a go-to option for many working travellers.
You’ll have to be OK with getting a bit dirty too, of course – farms tend to be like that, wherever they are in the world.
Working online
Make money online with these 25 ways detailed by the matched betting site, Profit Accumulator.
Sure enough, matched betting itself is on the list, this being a means of consistently generating cash from the betting markets without having to gamble any of your hard-earned existing funds.
However, there are many other methods by which you can add to your bank account with little more than an Internet-connected laptop. Why not respond to paid surveys, earn money to search online with the Qmee app, or even become a virtual assistant, to name just some of the possibilities?
Becoming a TV or movie extra
No, it’s not just the stuff of dreams to arrive in an exotic city from the airport and immediately be asked by a scout whether you would like to be in a movie – it actually happens, as detailed in this BBC article by a man who became a Bollywood extra on a visit to Mumbai.
You won’t become a millionaire from extras work, but you’ll get a bit of cash while feeling that glow of having actually appeared on the big screen.
What do you reckon? Have you tried any of these ways to make money while travelling, or got any others to share? Feel free to contribute your thoughts in the comments section below.
