The Agritourism Association of South Africa (Aasa), a non-profit organisation that works with farmers to develop rural agritourism initiatives to offer travellers authentic farm experiences in South Africa, will launch in October.
The association will represent all farmers and service providers who want to join and aims to promote agritourism and agritourism routes.
Aasa will create an umbrella brand with associated guidelines, through which agritourism services/products can be marketed to influential groups within the business environment, tourism bodies and government. It will also facilitate networking opportunities among members, create relevant and accessible agritourism intelligence to support members, provide access to valuable online training for all members, and promote agritourism to local and international tourists.
Board members include Chairperson, Valerie Flanagan, who is currently Chief Technical Adviser of the Sustainable Enterprise Development Facility at the International Labour Organisation in Pretoria. Johann Hattingh is a Director, and previously served on the boards of the Free State Gambling and Racing Board, Anglo-Boer War Museum Board, Free State Tourism Business Council and the Executive Board of Mangaung Tourism. Currently he is Free State Chairperson of Satsa. Jacqui Taylor is a Director and has 30 years’ marketing and communication experience working in the tourism, wine, agriculture and hotel industries.
