TORONTO — G Adventures has partnered with the Jane Goodall Institute to offer wildlife-focused trips approved by the institute for their animal welfare.
Bruce Poon Tip, G Adventure’s founder, said the Jane Goodall Collection by G Adventures, will be a select group of tours already in the G Adventures portfolio that are endorsed by Dr. Jane Goodall, the famed primatologist, whose eponymous institute works to improve the understanding and welfare of great apes through conservation strategies that engage local communities.
Poon Tip said that G Adventures hopes the partnership with Goodall, a personal hero of his, would help raise awareness of the importance of wildlife-friendly tourism. Goodall also gave formal support to the G Adventures Animal Welfare Policy, introduced in 2015, which dictates a set of minimum requirements the company’s partners and suppliers must adhere to when it comes to working with animals, and which led G Adventures to discontinue any elephant trekking or riding as part of its tours.
“I want to congratulate G Adventures on their animal welfare policy, which is so aligned with our values,” Goodall said in a statement. “My vision is that one day people can live in harmony with nature. Travel can be a powerful way to learn about the natural world and our relationship with it.”
A sample itinerary in the Jane Goodall Collection by G Adventures, is a trip to Borneo, new in 2017, that includes a river safari in search of wildlife such as proboscis monkeys and pygmy elephants, a trip to an orangutan rehabilitation center and visiting a turtle hatchery.
