Approximately 70,000 American Airlines employees on Tuesday wore the carrier’s first new uniforms in nearly three decades.
Customer-facing employees, including gate agents, flights attendants and pilots are among those wearing the outfits.
“As the uniform changes have been in the works for about three years, our most important consideration was our employees,” American spokeswoman LaKesha Brown said in an email Wednesday. “Through wear testing, changes were made to improve fit and functionality to stand up to the rigors of demanding jobs.”
The uniforms are aligned with the branding colors of the unified American Airlines, which merged with U.S. Airways last fall. They feature what Brown called deep grays and cobalt blues along with a splash of red.
American plans to add items, such as more dress options and new shirt styles, every couple of years.
