Allegiant Air on Tuesday introduced its first loyalty program.
The program, called MyAllegiant, will enable customers to procure points through purchases with the new Allegiant World Mastercard issued by Bank of America.
Customers who don’t have the card can’t participate in the program, even when making direct Allegiant purchases.
Under the program, cardholders accrue three points per dollar spent on Allegiant purchases, two points per dollar spent on dining purchases and one point per dollar spent on all other purchases. The points can then be redeemed as currency on Allegiant.com, with each point worth one cent.
Allegiant spokesman Brandon Myers said that the ultra-low-cost carrier doesn’t think of MyAllegiant as a frequent flier program, since the airline’s typical customer flies just once or twice per year. Rather, its emphasis on rewards for people who use the credit card throughout the year.
“We really feel the credit card’s incentives and its simplicity of use will resonate with our passengers,” Myers said. “The loyalty program is really designed on an infrequent flier model, much different than other airlines’ loyalty programs.”
Along with using card points for purchases, holders of the Allegiant World Mastercard can show the card for priority boarding and one free beverage on their flights.
