Do you have a pet? Worried about leaving them at home when you go on holiday? I myself am a huge dog lover and have always wanted to own one, but have always been concerned that my travelling lifestyle wouldn’t necessarily fit with owning a pet. That’s why taking a trip within the UK can be a great way to enjoy the summer months, without having to part with your canine friend. Best of all, more and more hotels and holiday parks are catering to our furry animals, offering pet-friendly accommodation that won’t leave anyone out in the cold.
Does your dog like a good run on the beach or do they prefer a leisurely stroll through the woods? Are they that much of a fussy eater only a lobster thermidor will do, or would they eat anything that came out of a tin? You know your dog best, so answer the questions on their behalf to find out where they’d love to go. With a range of six pet-friendly holiday parks dotted around the UK, as well as 2 new ones opening this summer in Suffolk and Berkshire, there’s a park for every kind of dog.
Here are some top picks for the summer:
Hilton Woods, Cornwall
A place very close to my heart is Cornwall. I spent many summer down here as a child and have some really fond memories. Using the luxury lodge of Hilton Woods as your base, you can explore Cornwall’s beautiful beaches, including Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven, which are both around 12 miles away. And if you’re caught out on a rainy day there are still many attractions to explore, including The Eden Project, which boasts the title of the world’s largest indoor rainforest.
Fornham Park, Suffolk
The idyllic area of Suffolk boasts a beautiful green and coastal landscape, along with many historic sites to explore, including Bury St. Edmunds, where you can learn more about the Magna Carta. If you fancy a day trip you can hop in the car and take a scenic road trip along the coast to the chic coastal towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold. Best of all the lodges at Fornham Park are surrounded by a large lake and plenty of open spaces where you can let your dog run free!
