Abnormal Dinner Series
When: Monthly
Once a month, the Cork and Craft‘s Executive Chef Phil Esteban invites other talented San Diego chefs and a local brewery to pair up for an installment of the Abnormal Dinner Series. Info about upcoming dinners is updated on their Facebook page – and they sell out, so don’t dilly dally. Can’t wait for the special event? You can always hit up Cork and Craft Tuesday through Sunday for top-notch creative dishes and local craft beer on tap.
Cow by Bear
When: Every Friday and Saturday night
This 5-course weekly dinner follows a different culinary theme every time, with one exception: they always serve a 45-day dry-aged ribeye as the entree. Oh, and dinner is served by a chef dressed in a bear costume. No, really. The identity of the chef is a total mystery, as Bear likes to be anonymous – which seems to be a theme since the location of the dinner is just as ambiguous. Visit their website and email Bear to book the next dinner – there are only 10 seats at each.
Green Flash Brewing Co. Supper Club
When: Random dates
Each dinner comprises of five courses paired with a different Green Flash brew, hosted by the director of beer education Dave Adams. If you’re lucky, you can also purchase one of 20 yearly supper club memberships that includes discounts on the dinners, a souvenir growler with a free fill at each event, and fun swag. Watch their website for information on future dinners.
Common Theory Public House Beer Dinner Series
When: Random dates
Common Theory’s dinner series is fairly new, having launched only this past January, but it’s a doozy: put together nine chefs, nine courses, and nine beers, and you’ve got one helluva night. Which is probably why they’re only doing this two or three times a year. Follow their website and social media for dibs on a ticket to the next one.
Sacha’s Supper Club
When: Monthly
This supper club takes place at various locations throughout the city, but the theme is always the same: Havana Nights. The swanky evening calls for a prix-fixe dinner, Havana-themed cocktails, dancing, and classic Hollywood garb. Not to mention the sultry vocals of Grammy-nominated singer Sacha – which is the event’s namesake. Check their website for tickets and upcoming event info.
Re:Source Dinner
When: Monthly
As if San Diegans weren’t tree-hugging hipsters already, the newest pop-up dinner series in town is called Re:Source – a concept where local chefs turn food that would otherwise be thrown away into creative, inventive dishes. Fear not, it’s not ACTUAL waste (do you think we’re savages or something?), it’s just unloved ingredients that we privileged First World citizens normally would toss because they’re less than perfect. Stick around for the educational part of the dinner, too. Visit the website for upcoming event info and tickets.
Black Label Table
When: Monthly
As one of San Diego’s first underground supper clubs, Black Label is elusive, sophisticated, and popular with trend-setting locals. Hosted by San Diego culinary legends Jimmy San Diego and Chef Adrian, prospective guests have to email them (check their website) to get info on the next dinner – and its secret location.
