We all love spending time with our grandparents. Every time we visit them, they greet us with big hugs, lots of food, and countless stories about their adventures. They are asking different questions about us and how we spend our days because they want to know if we are experiencing the best things life can offer. Which is why when we announce to the family that we want to take a long break from work or school and travel the world, they are usually the first ones who show full support.
Well, this is your chance to show them you appreciate their support, by letting them join you in one of your travels. Your grandparents will enjoy seeing new places and meeting new people, so giving them a trip to USA, Europe or Australia is a good idea. But this would mean that you would help them prepare the necessary things for the trip like a travel insurance from Chubb if you are living in Singapore, a proper clothes to wear, airline tickets, hotel accommodation, and more.
Traveling with your grandparents would mean that other factors should be considered before you make the trip happen. So to make sure that they are comfortable and to help guide you, we have created a list of things you need to keep in mind when traveling with senior citizens.
Know what time they prefer to travel
Our grandparents may not keep up with the energy that we have when we travel, so ask them what they prefer to schedule your flight first. Tell them how many hours it will take for you to land on your destination so that they can consider this when making their decision. If it is a long flight, they might prefer a night flight so they can sleep for majority of the travel. Some grandparents, however, are more awake at night, so they might want a day flight.
Choose a nonstop flight
When booking a flight, try avoiding connecting flights. It reduces the travel time significantly, which means less time for your grandparents to endure on airports and planes. It will also be easier because you would not have to wait hours and walk from one terminal to another. Additionally, avoid booking on small jets so that your grandparents will have more leg room and will be comfortable during the flight.
Create a checklist for things they need to bring
You know how we research our destination first and create a “things to buy” list to prepare for it? Make sure you create one for your grandparents, as well. If they are taking medications, make sure it is part of your pre-trip list so that you can buy the prescribed meds and place them in one accessible pack. Shop for climate appropriate clothes with them and help them prepare all the travel documents that will be needed for the trip.
Ask other family members if they want to join
Our grandparents love it when the whole family is spending time with, so try asking some of the family members if they can make time to be on a trip with all of you. To accommodate them, maybe you can organise a road trip for those who cannot travel very far.
These are some of the most important things you need to keep in mind if you want to maximise your trip with your grandparents. Show them you appreciate them by making them tag along on one of your adventures, pretty sure they will enjoy it too.
