Last month I wrote a blog post about my upcoming trip to Stockholm, Sweden. In “What is it about Sweden…” I mentioned that I would share with you how I go about planning a trip. In fact, I don’t have only one way of planning a trip because it depends on the destination – e.g. whether I have been there before or not, whether I speak the language or not, whether I have at least some knowledge of the culture and history of the place, etc. However, I normally start where you probably do: the Internet. I always go to the city and/or country’s official tourism website.
Unfortunately, I am almost always disappointed in official tourism sites. Visit Stockholm and Visit Sweden as well as Sweden.se have been a huge exception. In my opinion these 3 sites are the best websites in the tourism/travel marketing space in the world (Sweden.se Sweden’s official site – more about the country itself than tourism, but invaluable if you’re the kind of traveler that’s interested in more than just seeing tourist sites) . For my visit to Stockholm I have relied mostly on these websites as a starting point.
