In honor of National Pancake Day, we rounded up our ten favorite pancakes in the U.S. And don’t worry, it’s 100% acceptable to have a belated celebration this weekend.
1. Richard Walker’s Pancake House
San Diego, CA

The pancakes here are big enough to fill an entire pizza pan — and they usually do. The local favorite is the baked apple pie pancake, golden and fluffy and topped with laced, baked apple slices and served with a bowl (read: tub) of whipped butter.
2. The Smoke Shack
Milwaukee, WI
Ever thought to put BBQ and pancakes together? The proprietors of The Smoke Shack have. And they did. House-made sweet potato pancakes are topped with pulled Berkshire pork and Carolina mustard sauce for a sweet and salty deliciousness. If you’re craving the classic sweet, opt fot the mascarpone whipped cream, toasted pecans, and apple syrup.
3. Coulis
New Orleans, LA
Extra-heavy dustings of powdered sugar, raspberry compote, or mascarpone? Have your short stack your way at Coulis, where the pancakes are as famous as some of the patrons.
4. Walker Bros. The Original Pancake House
Wilmette, IL
This chain knows its pancakes, but the Wilmette location has taken theirs to new heights: the apple pancake comes with sauteed apples and cinnamon literally baked into the top layer. Order it fresh and hot and made in-house, or take home a frozen one (or several) and enjoy in your pajamas.
5. Wildberry Pancakes & Cafe
Chicago, IL
Their signature cake is smothered in vanilla anglaise, blackberry coulis, and berry mascarpone and served with fresh berries, but there’s also an Oreo S’mores pancake for the sugar-loving child in all of us.
6. Smoke
Dallas, TX
Brunch is a whole new thang at Smoke, where you can order this smorgasbord: blueberry and ricotta pancakes with vanilla-poached apricots, topped with heavy cream. Hey, there’s fruit, so it’s healthy, right?
7. Jacks N Joe
Los Angeles, CA
Known for being a “breakfast all day kinda place,” Jacks N’ Joe offer up plenty of wacky pancakes (their “WTF” pancakes are a pile of random shapes of grilled pancake batter topped with whipped cream and fruit), but the Pudgie Elvis draws our attention for the perfect combination of sweet and salty: topped with bananas and peanut butter, they make a breakfast The King himself would have been proud of.
8. Clinton St. Baking Co. & Restaurant
New York City, NY

This is where pancakes come to bask in the utmost glory. From banana walnut to wild Maine blueberries, chocolate chunk with warm maple butter to crispy potato pancakes with smoked salmon, caviar, and lemon creme fraiche… pancake lovers will rejoice.
9. Padrecito
San Francisco, California

Pancakes Latin-style: made with polenta and plantains, then topped with mango mascarpone, strawberries, and a sweet milk caramel called cajeta.
10. Snooze, an A.M. Eatery
Denver, Colorado

All of the pancakes on the menu are deelish, but the pineapple upside-down pancakes are a sure favorite. Again….fruit. Healthy. Just keep telling yourself that.
