It’s highly likely you’re visiting Barcelona to enjoy its warm weather, so finding somewhere to have a drink in the sunshine is probably a priority.
Barcelona has lots of places to sit, eat and drink outside – you just have to know where to find them. On which note, here are ten to try.
1. Olokuti

Start your morning with a healthy breakfast of organic food on the Carrer d’Astúries.
The fairtrade store, Olokuti, has a secret garden tucked behind it, so head there for a restorative cup of tea in the sunshine or shade.

2. Cafe Zurich

There’s lots of places to eat and drink around the Plaça Catalunya at the top of La Ramblas, but we recommend this long-standing cafe.
Sit out on the terrace and join the locals in a bit of people watching in this prime location.

3. Bar Calders

If you’re thinking about lunch, then this lovely bar on Carrer del Parlament is a great spot for some tapas in the open air.
This is also one of the city’s best vermouth bars and stays open till the early hours of the morning.
Come down and hang out here before heading to the beach – it’s a great place to meet up if you’re in a group.
Try the papas con provolone (potatoes with provolone cheese), nachos de la casa (their house nachos) and suave hummus (their home-made soft hummus).

4. Vai Moana

Stroll along the Rambla de Poble Nou and you’ll find yourself at one of the best beachside bars in Barcelona.
At the Vai Moana you can drink cocktails and eat at one of their many beach tables. You’ll find it on the Bogatell beach (a quieter option to Barceloneta).
The Mediterranean food is very good here, and you can even buy your squid burgers to go if you’d rather picnic on the sand.
They also have deals for groups, and are family-friendly.

5. El Jardin del Alma (The Garden of the Soul)

This garden at the Alma Hotel is the perfect city refuge.
The restaurant here has an excellent reputation – try and time it right for their famous brunch with fresh, local produce.
If it’s quiet you’ll probably only here the gentle sounds of the chicharras (kind of like crickets). The hotel also has a rooftop terrace, which is only open seasonally, so check the website first.

6. Bar De L’Antic Teatre

This is a good bet for those hot afternoons.
The legendary Antic Teatre in Carrer de Verdaguer I Callis has one of the best sheltered terraces in the city – have a beer or wine underneath the fig tree at its centre.
It’s especially good during the month of July, when the cultural GREC Festival takes place.
You can watch performances, including contemporary circus, jazz music and experimental theatre, on summer evenings.

7. Torre Rosa

The Torre Rosa is one of the most famous cocktail bars in Barcelona, mainly thanks to its exotic garden and far-ranging drinks menu, including specialist vermouth and gin & tonics.
You’ll find this pink palace it in the old quarter of the city, and its got a kind of South American, colonial style to it.

8. La Caseta Del Migdia

This is a good place to watch the sun set over the city from the top of Mountjuic. With a drink in hand and some of their house chicken, obviously.
After a relaxed drink you can pop down to watch the famous Montjuic fountains (June to August) which have grand displays from 9.30pm.

9. Terraza del Hotel Omm

On the Carrer of Rosselló the Hotel Omm is firmly established as one of the flagship bars in the city.
Few things beat sitting by its pool terrace with a large gin and tonic overlooking La Pedrera, the Sagrada Familia and Montjuic.
You’ll find great cocktails here, along with tapas and a sushi bar, and in peak season there’s live music and DJs.

10. The Terrrazza

Dancing through the night and well into the morning at this famous outdoor nightclub and terrace in Poble Espanyol, La Terrrazza.
There’s a definite Ibizan club feel; you’ll find nooks and crannies dotted with lanterns, palm trees, and live DJs.
You can buy tickets in advance if you want to avoid the queues.
